Transitioning your pet to a Royal Barf diet is a gradual process to ensure their digestive system adjusts smoothly. Start by mixing a small amount of Royal Barf with your pet’s current food and gradually increase the proportion of Royal Barf over the course of 3 days. Monitor your pet’s appetite, stool consistency, and overall well-being during the transition period, and consult with our team of experts for personalized guidance and support.

Yes, raw meat is safe for dogs and cats, it is biologically appropriate for them. Dogs and cats evolved to eat raw prey. Their digestive systems are designed for it: they have strong stomach acid, a short digestive tract, and a natural ability to handle the bacteria commonly found in raw food, easier to digest than highly processed pet foods.

No. Cooking significantly alters the nutritional integrity of a BARF diet. Heat destroys natural enzymes and reduces the bioavailability of essential nutrients, including heat-sensitive vitamins and essential fatty acids. When exposed to high temperatures, fats can oxidize, reducing their nutritional value and placing additional stress on the body. Cooking also changes protein structure, which may make nutrients harder to digest and less effective for overall health. Many minerals, amino acids, and vitamins are best absorbed in their natural, unprocessed state, which is why our properly prepared raw diet is designed to be fed uncooked.

Any of Royal Barf Diets are great for dogs and cats of all ages, sizes and breeds and are complete and balanced for all life stages.

Royal Barf Diet is properly formulated for both dogs and cats and contains a natural source of taurine (which cats need) in the organ meats we use in our diet. To feed your cat, use the Raw Food Calculator

The best treats for dogs and cats are those that stay as close as possible to their natural, biologically appropriate diet. Treats should complement the BARF diet, not work against it. Royal Barf offers both gently dried and freeze-dried treats, which preserve the nutritional value of real ingredients while remaining safe, clean, and easy to feed. These treats are minimally processed and closely aligned with raw feeding principles. It’s important to remember that every pet is unique. Dogs and cats respond differently to different proteins and textures, so the right treat depends on your pet’s individual selection, Every pet is unique. allergies or food sensitivities must always be taken into consideration. Different animals tolerate different proteins and textures, so what works perfectly for one pet may not suit another. The best approach is to test carefully, introduce treats gradually, and observe your pet’s response

It can be helpful to allow your pet a one or two day fast prior to making the switch to the Royal Barf Diet. This allows the body to detoxify itself of any impurities that may buildup. Fasting can also increase hunger! Hunger can be an invaluable aid in re-training the taste buds of fussy pets. We recommend a 6-day feeding schedule with the 7th day being a day of fasting. The 7th day of fasting will allow your pet’s body to “reset” for the next week’s feeding schedule.

WARNING: Dogs can tolerate long fasts, whereas cats should not be fasted longer than 24 to 48 hours. This is because cats, especially overweight cats, can develop a fatal disease called Hepatic Lipidosis if fasted for long periods

No. In fact, kibble may be responsible for a higher incidence of bloat because it stays in the gastrointestinal tract longer which gives it more time to ferment and expand. Unlike dry kibble diets, BARF does not expand when eaten. It also doesn’t cause excess gas buildup like processed diets do. This is because a raw diet is easily digested by your pet allowing the body to extract the maximum amount of nutrients from the food (all that remains in the stool is ash and fiber) and less time to ferment in the body since it has a faster elimination time.
